audio technica ath-m50

Highest rated headphones on the web. These sound absolutely amazing for anything under $200
Their main strengths are that they don't need an amp to sound great, and they're practically indestructible.

Over time, the cord is experiencing a problem I've had with tons of headphones - it only plays sound on both channels when the cable coming out of the audio jack is in the right position. No big deal, as I use these exclusively at home.

I highly recommend these headphones, though in the future I might get the straight cable version - the coils look old fashioned. But if that's what you're going for, great.

PS I wish Audio-Technica would release a shorter-cord version of the ATH-M50S straight cord version - it would sell really well, and be more convenient for those of us using them outside a recording studio. You can always add more cord with an extension - having this much cord for walking around the house is just a little awkward.

Overall, awesome headphones with an untouchable pedigree. Sounds great on everything.
If you don't like the way the pads feel and don't mind your ears getting hot, I'd recommend getting the SRH-840 pads from Sweetwater or another store, they're very cush.
